Haara: A Luminary Symphony of Nature and Craftsmanship

Designer Ian Cameron's Award-Winning Pendant Light Inspired by Nature's Serenity

Haara, a pendant light designed by Ian Cameron, is a harmonious blend of nature's tranquility and human craftsmanship. This award-winning design, inspired by the organic growth of tree branches, is a testament to the designer's meticulous attention to detail and innovative use of materials.

The Haara pendant light stands out for its unique properties and design. Its branching frame, derived from close observation of nature, is made up of individual segments each cut from a single piece of brass. This finely engineered structure is a delicate yet strong representation of a growing tree branch. The cylindrical lanterns, assembled from hand-drawn glass and polished brass, conceal the lighting element, creating a unique and beautiful lighting diffuser that is to be admired whether the light is on or off.

The realization of Haara's design involved the use of brass and glass. Each segment of the branching frame is cut from a solid piece of brass and then hollowed out to allow for the wiring to be completely hidden within. The highest quality LED lighting is used, concealed by the unique cylindrical lanterns made up of 33 individually hand-drawn and positioned glass rods. The result is a bright linear light that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

The Haara pendant light is completely customizable in size and configuration, making it adaptable to various spaces. The light source is through LED lights and has a variety of colour temperature options. It is provided with a Triac dimmable driver as standard with wattage dependent on sizing. The drop height is also customizable to suit the space.

The design of Haara took roughly two years of development from initial design through prototyping to final hand manufacture. The inspiration for the Haara came from nature and that is where the research started. The way in which tree branches shift in different directions, organically growing at varying angles and diverting contentedly around obstructing objects was observed and explored. This research assisted with creating a piece which has infinite configuration options indicative of a genuine tree branch growing in nature.

Despite the challenges of balancing the piece and ensuring the technical elements were hidden, the Haara pendant light was successfully created. It was designed to be shipped in parts and easily assembled on site, making it accessible to customers worldwide. This design was awarded Silver in A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award in 2018, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation.

In conclusion, the Haara pendant light is a remarkable blend of nature's inspiration and human craftsmanship. Its unique design, meticulous attention to detail, and innovative use of materials make it a worthy addition to any space. With its award-winning design, Haara is a testament to the creativity and innovation of its designer, Ian Cameron.
